UP! — INTERNATIONAL DOT DAY 2023! Love it! :D

The years sure do fly (I can’t believe this is my 10th dot!), and here we are again–celebrating this year’s Dot Day! And another big “Wow!”–Peter Reynold‘s amazing book The Dot is now 20 years old! Yep! The book that sparked this wonderful year-round celebration of CREATIVITY, today being the “official” day! 😁😎🀩 Continue reading

INTERVIEWS w/AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR of THE QUEEN of CHESS!

As you know, I rarely review books, but this is much more than that. It’s interviews with two extraordinarily talented women: author Laurie Wallmark and animator/illustrator Stevie Lewis whose book releases on July 25th.

I’m not a frequent user of Facebook; I visit sporadically, typically for birthday wishes to friends and family, so time spent is sparse. As luck would have it, I happened to catch one of Laurie’s posts in my timeline announcing her upcoming book, The Queen of Chess. Being a chess fan myself, I was thrilled her latest biography focused on Grandmaster Judit Polgar. Continue reading

Confident that someone wouldn’t have to be unusually perceptive, it’s not a stretch to assume you’ve gotten just a bit of a hint that I am somewhat OVER-THE-MOON, JUMPING-OUT-OF-MY-SKIN EXCITED about the Reynolds brothers visiting my blogs for a “chat” in celebration ofΒ International Dot Day πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜Žβ£πŸ’₯!!!!!!!

No “Dynamic Duo” is complete when you have one of a pair. Last week I had the pleasure of one cape-donning superhero dropping by: the amazing Paul Reynolds. This week none other than the pencil-and-brush-wielding Peter Reynolds is here. Needless to say, very much in “Lois Lane” fashion, I’ve been swept off my feet to circle the stars by their gracious presence and certainly their incredibly thoughtful, moving and inspirational responses to my questions. I’m betting you enjoyed Paul’s and are about to enjoy Peter’s too πŸ˜€ 😎 (also posted on “Writer Side UP!“) Continue reading

A β€œLighter Side Up”

Q & A with

Paul Reynolds

Β

For those of you who’ve been following my blog since its launch, you may recall that at that time it had been planned to do Q&As with the Reynolds brothers, but due to life’s demands the posts had to be postponed. These are two busy guys. After all, what else would you expect from superheroes?! Well, I can tell youβ€”they were worth the wait. When you read their sensitive, wise, affecting responses to my questions, their superpowers are crystal clear: words and actions that stem from passionate, sincere hearts. I’m SO honored to be hosting them as part of International Dot Day 2018 (just 2 weeks away, having been inspired by Peter’s book, The Dot!). This year, rather than creating my own little Dot, I think this is a MUCH better way to celebrate πŸ™‚ ❀ Continue reading

C.C. — β€œTHE” Way to ROAST a TURKEY

TURKEY clip artSeeing as it’s that time of yearβ€”here in the U.S. at leastβ€”when turkey is the staple food for celebrations, I figured it’s the perfectΒ time to post this. For decades it’s given us crispy-skinned, moist turkey every time 😎

Back in the 1960s, Aunt Polly, a Kentucky-raised in-law witnessed us Italian New Yorkers roasting a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. My grandmother, at frequent intervals, rose through the night to keep the basting process going. Aunt Polly said, β€œI’m sorry to say this, but you people do not know how to cook turkey.” And so, thankfully from that day on, instead of continually rising β€˜til dawn, our family rose to the dawn of a β€œNew” Age of Roasting Turkey!
